Artist's statement

I have painted since I was eight – Now, seventy years later, it still excites me.
It is a voyage of adventure to find beauty amid the mundane and sometimes downright ugly as well as the picturesque. There is the need to record the feelings that caused a ‘Ha ha’ moment whether in beautiful countryside or city backstreets.
Good examples can be found in the various paintings produced of Malaga Cathedral, known affectionally locally as ‘La Manquita’. Its solitary tower looks down upon the narrow streets surrounding while it lifts your gaze skywards where, in the bright morning light, it blends with the sky. For we search for light.
Light in all its shapes, colours and forms inspires my paintings. I love its effect seen in the orange sunrises and sunsets off the English Sussex coast, the unbelievably soft light of Venice shimmering off the Lagoon or the bright reflections and deep cast shadows of the urban scenes I love; especially those of London and Paris.
I paint what is inspirational to me. It is a personal interpretation but one with which I hope others empathise. For as I express myself in my paintings I believe buyers of original paintings express their individuality and enhance others’ perception of their quality of life.

Trayectoria del artista

Comencé a pintar a los 8 años, ahora, 70 años más tarde, pintar aún me emociona. Es un viaje de aventuras que me permite encontrar la belleza en medio de lo mundano, que a veces es francamente feo, pero también pintoresco. Tengo la necesidad de plasmar las sensaciones que me provoca un "Ja, ja" ,un hermoso campo o las callejuelas de la ciudad.
Buenos ejemplos se pueden encontrar en los cuadros de la Catedral de Málaga, conocida cariñosamente como "La Manquita". Su solitaria torre mira hacia abajo entre las estrechas calles que la rodean y al mismo tiempo levanta la mirada hacia el cielo donde en la brillante luz de la mañana, se funde con el cielo. La ligereza de su silueta, colores y formas, inspiran mis pinturas.
Me encanta el efecto de los amaneceres y atardeceres naranja en la costa inglesa de Sussex. La increíblemente suave luz de Venecia que se difunde en las aguas o los reflejos brillantes y las sombras profundas de las escenas urbanas sobre todo de Londres y París, que me encantan.
Pinto lo que es mi fuente de inspiración. Es una interpretación personal, con la que espero empatizar con los demás. Porque tal como yo me expreso en mis pinturas creo que los compradores de pinturas originales expresan también su individualidad y mejoran la percepción de los demás y de su calidad de vida.
